  • Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paint shops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry

We are a growing organization, and we are seeking a Commissioning Engineer with a specialization in Controls to join our Paint and Final Assembly Systems division. Together, with the momentum of our business vision, we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Drr influences at a global level.

 

Location: Southfield, MI

 

Position Summary: This is a field support position reporting to the Commissioning Manager and the Director of Operations. The successful candidate must possess strong communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work in an open team environment on large and small projects of varying durations. In this position the engineer will be responsible for startup/commissioning of Drr installations (and competitor system reworks). This position may also require oversight/management and site supervision to meet the project goals and schedules. He or she must work closely with the individual site teams to ensure that installations are complete, ready for startup and the necessary resources and plans are in place for a successful startup and launch. The position will involve travel and possibly extended stays at the job site(s)

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities        

 

  • Provide commissioning for projects and products
  • Conduct equipment start-up and debug
  • Verify hardwired installation
  • Debug controls hardware and software
  • Record baseline data
  • Mark up drawing changes
  • Project performance and data collection
  • Input schedule
  • Produce daily site reports
  • Provide standby and customer support
  • Support field personnel
  • Support selection and controls of suppliers and Purchased Equipment vendors
  • Assist with installation supervision as needed
  • Work as part of a team on major projects or individually on smaller projects
  • Travel approximately (90%) and work variable hours when required

Qualifications                    

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5 or more years of position related experience
  • Working knowledge of paint finishing products preferred
  • Flexible, dependable, and creative
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to define problems and propose solutions
  • Good customer relation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and determine priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley)

 

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
