  • Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paint shops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry

  • Clean Technology Systems: exhaust-air purification systems and energy-efficiency technology
  • Woodworking Machinery and Systems: machinery for the woodworking

 

We are a growing organization, and we are seeking a Director of Operations to join our Paint and Final Assembly Systems division. Together, with the momentum of our business vision, we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Dürr influences at a global level.

 

Location: Southfield, MI

 

Position Summary:

 

The Director of Operations is expected to be able to manage the Department through strong leadership and managerial skills. He / she will be responsible for the successful management of all PFS projects (except Service projects) to meet customer expectations and deliver on time and within budgets. The Director will also oversee the manufacturing operations in Dürr's Novi shop.

 

Flexible, extended working hours including travelling will be required to meet the demands of the projects.

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities        

 

  • Assign personnel to lead execution of projects
  • Frequent reviews and monitoring of project performance (schedule, budget, cash flow, invoicing) and defining counter-measures if required (jointly with assigned Project Managers)
  • Assure project execution being compliant with procedures and processes
  • Establish and maintain relationship with customer management (eg attend progress meetings / Steering Committees, being first contact for escalation topics)
  • Support project managers for claim management (customers and suppliers)
  • Monitor site activities for schedule compliance, costs and health & safety
  • Manage project risks jointly with project managers (identify, monitor, control, define counter measures)
  • Managing of Department (frequent department meetings)
  • People Development: Planning, supporting and tracking of development steps for personnel
  • Managing and developing of Project Managers (from Associate PMs to Senior PMs), Site Managers and Commissioning Engineers
  • Managing and leading the manufacturing facility in Novi
  • Tracking of department performance and target achievements (KPI)
  • Continuous Improvement of department processes and procedures (e.g. PACE)
  • Close coordination with Sales, Application Engineering, Engineering and Accounting department
  • Participation in recurring management meetings (PFS management, Sales, etc.)
  • Close coordination with global Operations leaders and headquarter to exchange improvements, latest developments and process / procedure changes
  • Preparation of department budget and monitoring
  • Interview, hire and dismiss employees as required for the Department
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for the Department personnel including development of KPI's
  • Monitor/approve attendance and expenses for the Department

Qualifications                    

 

  • At least 5 - 10 years' experience in project management
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate subject (e.g., engineering, construction management, project management)
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills "to all levels" in written and verbal (English)
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Solution-oriented and "hands-on"
  • High level of responsibility and intercultural competence
  • Excellent customer relationship skills
  • Stress resistant: flexible time management and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel

 

 

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
